BoC Top 10

Recently, the BoC Pages facebook page asked fans to contribute a list of their top 10 BoC songs. While I personally, have a VERY hard time naming ONLY 10 (I could go for say 20 hahaha), I most definitely have an even more difficult putting them in an ORDER of preference, that being said I simply listed 10 of my favorite songs. I’d like to welcome the rest of you to reply or reblog this with YOUR 10 favorite BoC songs. Here’s mine:

Sunshine Recorder
An Eagle In Your Mind
SixtyNiner
ROYGBIV
You Could Feel The Sky
The Devil Is In The Details
Julie And Candy
Hi Scores (Hi Scores EP Version)
1969
A Beautiful Place In The Country

Question with 2 notes

Anonymous asked: What cults are they in?

Hah, I’m not really sure how to answer this one, people can take away a sense of cultism from BoC’s music based on a lot of the backmasking and Satan references in albums like Geogaddi, then of course there is the obsession with numbers/math, childhood AND David Koresh/Waco.

I don’t believe the duo have ever expressed any dedication to a particular religion, or even lack of religion, they simply like to use it all to make people think. There is actually a quote from one of them when asked about why Geogaddi adds up to 66 minutes and 6 seconds, and the answer he gave was along the lines of “to mess with people”.  Take from that what you will.

As far as the childhood references:

We’ve touched upon the theme of lost childhood a few times because it’s something personal to me that gives me real inspiration through its sadness. I think sometimes the best way to get inspiration is to face up to the things that make you very sad in your life, and use them.“  -Michael Sandison

Hope that answers your offbeat question.

Boards of Canada - Happy Cycling (Zarathustra Mix)

This is my own personal mix of “Happy Cycling” that I put together several years ago. I won’t go so far as to call it a  “remix” because I didn’t add any of my own original content, I simply  worked with what was already there. The intro has been shortened and  pieces in the middle and ending have been chopped and lengthened. I really did this  for my own listening pleasure but have decided to share it with other  fans. Let me know what you think. (By the way, for some reason the ending was cut off about 5 seconds short when we uploaded it here…not sure why.)

Boards of Canada Discussion for the Evening

Tell me what it is you either LIKE or DISLIKE (I guess if you disliked it you probably wouldn’t be here…) about the minimalism present in some of BoC’s work.

Personally, these songs are some of my favorites, the minimalism was a lot more prevalent in their older stuff, though there is plenty in the later releases as well. To me, there’s just something about the simplistic nature of it that really gives it that special charm, I’ll use Powerline Misfortune as an example here…Right at about the 41 second mark where those two bassy little synth hits come in, it feels like I’ve been waiting the whole of my life just to hear those two notes against that backdrop, a life that has been compressed down to 1:15 in length.

Anyway, there’s my take on it all, fans can either submit your opinions via submission link for me to publish here (if they’re well thought out) or put them in the ask box and I will keep them private.

Boards of Canada - Powerline Misfortune

It’s a creepy, minimalism kind of evening, and BoC is just the ticket.

Question

cesarojedac asked: do you know if they're going to release a new album soon?

I haven’t heard anything definite other than the usual rumors which turn out to be false, unfortunately.
